On October 7, The Lower Hall in St. Anthony's Church at 155 Sullivan Street in Manhattan will be the site of New York City’s most important pizza party ever — a $1 slice blowout to provide as much aid as possible to Food Bank for New York City. Slice Out Hunger’s founder, Scott Weiner, is the founder of the popular Scott’s Pizza Tours, an exploration of New York City’s best pizzerias, and a Guinness World Record holder for his massive collection of pizza boxes.

So far, 50 pizzerias across New York City — including several from The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Pizzas in America, like Grimaldi’s, Artichoke, Roberta’s, and Lombardi’s, among others — have agreed to provide more than 1,000 pizzas.

Last year, the event raised $30,000 in a single evening, and this year, Slice Out Hunger is hoping to make that look like chump change, with your help. Since 2009, the annual event has raised more than $70,000 total in hunger relief funding. The full proceeds from the evening will be donated to Food Bank for New York City.

“We started doing $1 Slice Night when we were celebrating the first anniversary of Scott’s Pizza Tours, and all these pizzerias stared offering me free pizzas, Weiner told The Daily Meal. “Instead of just letting my friends and family take all this free pizza, I asked people to give just one dollar for every slice they ate. Basically, we were able to use everybody’s obsession with pizza to fund hunger relief.

“We recently incorporated to become a non-profit, but we’re still run by a group of friends and volunteers. We’re also able to top off the money we make with money from sponsors, and each meal essentially funds 20 meals for someone in need. It’s just a great way to help New Yorkers and eat some of the best pizza in the city at the same time.”

Admission to Slice Out Hunger is free, but you will need to buy $1 tickets for every slice of pizza you want to eat. Each ticket will provide 20 meals to a fellow New Yorker in need. Please note, you are allowed a maximum of 10 tickets for pizza (drink tickets are unlimited) and you can only choose one slice from each pizzeria.

14 Reasons Why Most Diets Fail

When people decide to go on a diet, they automatically feel like they are depriving themselves and their bodies of the foods they want. And do you know what that makes them? Miserable.

This is the reason why two out of every five people on a diet quit in the first 7 days! Only 1 out of those 5 end up going strong after a month.

Why do so many people have diets that nose-dive? They fail because we concentrate too much on a diet and forget about the lifestyle changes.

Losing weight can be very beneficial for people that are overweight or obese. Why is a healthy weight so important?

It lowers the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and some types of cancer. For those who already have Type 2 diabetes, losing some weight can decrease or completely eliminate the need for insulin or diabetic medications.

I advise reading the following:

Creating healthy habits, instead of jumping from one diet to another, is a better way to shed the pounds and to keep them at bay. By avoiding the following mistakes, you can make transformation that can last a lifestyle. Up to 90% of people that lose weight end up gaining most or all of it back within 3 to 5 years. You can prevent that from happening to you!
