Biscuit salami ingredients:

  • 300 g biscuits
  • 50 g shit
  • 40 g walnut kernels
  • 30 g of cranberries
  • 50 g sugar
  • 100 ml of milk
  • 100 g butter
  • 30 g cocoa
  • rum essence
  • Coconut.

Preparation of biscuit salami:

We break the biscuits into medium pieces and place them in a large bowl. We cut the shit into cubes. We chop the walnut kernel. According to preference, we can cut the cranberries in half or we can leave them whole.

Boil the milk, then add the sugar, butter and stir from time to time until melted. Add the cocoa, mix well with a fork. turn off the heat and add the essence of rum, walnuts, shit, cranberries. Pour the hot composition over the biscuits and mix well.

We put the food foil on the table, we sprinkle coconut, we put half of the biscuit composition, we shape salami bars. We tighten the foil very well so that the salami is homogeneous and we tie it very well at the ends. Put in the fridge for a few hours, preferably overnight, before slicing.

I often crave the most beloved dessert recipe of my childhood, namely the classic Biscuit Salami Recipe.

It is about the biscuit salami, which our mothers prepared for us, with the simplest ingredients and available to everyone, namely:

  • popular biscuits, which were in abundance at the time, I received them right away instead of shopping
  • multicolored shit, which was also found in all grocery stores
  • fresh milk, not missing from rural households
  • cocoa, nuts, sugar, honey and the much-loved rum essence.

Later, this childhood recipe was improved, according to the possibilities of each housewife, to buy new ingredients.

Introduced: butter, raisins, coconut and candied fruit, various spices, but the taste of simple biscuit salami remains in the memory forever, longing for childhood.

I tried to restore that taste, using exactly the known ingredients, but even the popular biscuits are not as they used to be and their recipe has diversified.

1. Boil 60 ml of milk and sugar in a bowl to obtain a syrup in which butter is then added. Stir vigorously to melt it.

We can even break them by hand if we like the bigger pieces. After we have finished this step, we put the milk in a pot on low heat. Add the butter over the milk and mix slowly until it melts. When the butter has melted, add the sugar and wait for it to melt as well. Now add the 2 tablespoons of cocoa and mix well. When the composition starts to boil, turn off the heat and add the raisins. If you don't like them, you can remove them from the recipe. Add the rum or vanilla essence, and let the composition cool for 5 minutes-10 minutes.

Now we have to combine all the ingredients. We add the obtained composition over the chopped biscuits and mix very well, until everything is homogenous.

Subsequently, sprinkle coconut on a food foil and pour the obtained composition. All we have to do now is form a roll, wrapping the salami in cling film.

Let it cool for 3 hours or overnight if you have the patience. When it is ready, we take it out and cut it into slices.

"First of all, it is not made from breadcrumbs, as some recipes say. It is made from the best and finest biscuits. Simple biscuits, without filling. We do not discount the cocoa chapter, which can be, according to taste, sweet or bitter. I don't add sugar at all, because biscuits have sugar anyway.

I add butter, necessarily butter, not margarine, rum (not essence, but quality rum), and I laugh bitter chocolate. And, from a pod, I put vanilla.
