  • 225g beef mince
  • 225g Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 (400g) jar pasta sauce
  • 1/2 (300g) tin chopped mushrooms
  • 1 (400g) tin chopped Italian tomatoes & herbs, undrained
  • 1/2 (500g) packet refrigerated or fresh cheese tortellini
  • 110g grated mozzarella cheese
  • 70g grated Cheddar cheese

  1. Crumble the minced beef and Italian sausage into a large frying pan. Cook over medium-high heat until browned. Drain.
  2. Combine the meats, pasta sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes in a slow cooker. Cover, and cook on LOW heat for 7 to 8 hours.
  3. Stir in the tortellini, and sprinkle the mozzarella and Cheddar cheese over the top. Cover and cook for 15 more minutes on LOW, or until the tortellini is tender.

Follow the simple recipe below to make this delicious Cheesy Baked Tortellini from scratch.

  • Step 1 . Start off by cooking the pasta a la dente in boiling water according to packet instructions.

  • Step 2 . In a separate pan brown the ground beef, add in some salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

  • Step 3 . Next, remove the fat and add in the tomato sauce followed by the cream cheese and cooked tortellini then mix everything together.

Crock Pot Cheesy Spinach and Tomato Tortellini

You know those slow cooker recipes that you can throw together in the morning and let cook all day long? This is not that recipe. This Crock Pot Cheesy Spinach and Tomato Tortellini is super easy to make, but the pasta only takes a couple of hours to cook, so you can’t step away from it for too long.

Did you guys know that Crock Pot Thursday isn’t just for recipe reviews? My family, and my extended family, make these dishes in our regular life, just like you do. We toss them together with a cup of coffee in one hand, and we delight in the aroma of our slow cooked meals when we come home from work in the evening or from hauling our kids around all day long. Really the only difference between your house and mine is that I plate one serving for my blog photos. That serving usually ends up being my dinner.

On Thursdays, my daughter has soccer practice in the evening, so I threw it together in the afternoon, and it was ready to serve when we walked in the door from practice. Well, ready as soon as I took my quick pictures with my point and shoot camera. Someday I’ll upgrade to a fancy model, but my discontinued Panasonic Lumix is treating me well for now, despite my habit of dropping electronics.

On second thought, maybe I shouldn’t get a fancy camera.

Give this recipe a try if you like simple dishes your family will eat. Put it on your menu if you like meals that take 10 minutes or less to assemble. Have at it if you’re trying to gain weight, because it is not at all low calorie, and you won’t be able to eat a small serving. Trust me, I tried.

Cheesy Crock Pot Tortellini Casserole

This Cheesy Crock Pot Tortellini Casserole recipe is quick and easy to make and kid approved!

If you ask my oldest (5) what he wants to eat he will 90% of the time yell “PASTA,” (the other 5% of the time he picks steak). This Slow Cooker Cheesy Ravioli Casserole has been a favorite of ours so I decided to make it with Tortellini and now I can’t decide which one if my favorite!

You could almost call this tortellini lasagna because you layer the pasta and sauce, except it is missing ricotta. Lasagna isn’t lasagna without ricotta, in my opinion! Here is my recipe for Crock Pot Lasagna Casserole.

Cheesy Crock Pot Tortellini

I love to make my pasta sauce with both sausage and hamburger. I love the flavor the combination has so I often double the sauce portion using a pound of both and freezer the other half for a quick weekday meal.

Different size and brand crock pots cook different so the first time you make this recipe (or any recipe) watch to make sure you don’t over cook it. This is one of those recipes I would use a crock pot liner on. Melted cheese isn’t any fun to clean up in a crock pot!

I do not cook the tortellini before hand. We prefer cheese tortellini and meat sauce but you can use whatever your family likes best.

Serve with a side salad and garlic bread (or twist bread sticks, the favorite at our house) and dinner is served!

Slow Cooker Cheesy Tortellini

Yield: 6 servings

prep time: 15 minutes

cook time: 8 hours, 20 minutes

total time: 8 hours, 35 minutes

There’s nothing better than coming home to the cheesiest tortellini ever, and yes, it’s easily made right in the crockpot!


  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (10-ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 (9-ounce) package refrigerated three cheese tortellini
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves


  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add ground beef, onion and garlic. Cook until beef has browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the beef as it cooks drain excess fat.
  2. Place ground beef mixture, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes and green chiles, oregano, basil and red pepper flakes into a slow cooker season with salt and pepper, to taste. Stir until well combined.
  3. Cover and cook on low heat for 7-8 hours or high heat for 3-4 hours.
  4. Uncover and stir in tortellini top with cheeses. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 15-30 minutes, or until tender.
  5. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

Tortellini Pasta

I’m always looking for simple dinner ideas that the whole family will love, and always have luck with pasta recipes. From spaghetti to fettuccine, I like to add one of these pasta recipes to the weekly menu plan because they’re usually simple and something all of my kids will eat.

This recipe was inspired by our Creamy Penne Pasta recipe that we make at least once a month. I love tortellini and was trying to get my kids to like it, so I decided to use tortellini noodles in this recipe, and it was a hit!

This Cheesy Garlic Tortellini Pasta is now a new dinner recipe that the kids loved! Since there are so many varieties of tortellini (meat filled, cheese filled, etc.), I’m hoping we can try out other versions as well.

How to Make Italian Meatball Tortellini

First, start by cooking the meatballs according to the package directions.

Meanwhile, add the tomato sauce, broth, and tortellini to a skillet.

Bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 8 minutes.

Add the cooked meatballs and salt and pepper to taste if desired. Stir to combine and simmer for an additional two minutes.

Remove to a plate or a wide bowl for serving.

You can garnish with a little basil…

And parmesan cheese on top if desired. :)

So, as many of you know, I’m huge and pregnant. This baby should be making his appearance by the end of the month! Holy cow. Did that just sneak up on me? I think yes. My baby belly is seriously getting too big in front of me… so much so that I have to stand sideways to do dishes and/or cook anything in the kitchen. Basically, I’ve capped my dinner-making ability at 30 minutes. If I can’t get it done in that time, then we go get pizza —> I’m not even kidding.

Well, conveniently, Land O’Lakes asked me to participate in their Weeknight Wins Blogger Challenge using their brand-new product called Sauté Express® Sauté Starter—basically a one-stop shop (aka magical butter and herb squares) for throwing yummy and easy dinners together in under 30 minutes. Just what this momma needs! I’m going to be using this brand-new product to develop some new dinner ideas that are fast and simple and you’re going to love!

Do you know how I deal with feeding picky eaters? I yell at them and then throw them out of my house.

I deal with picky eaters with CHEESE. Oh, and pasta.

It always works! I have no idea why every kid loves cheesy noodles, but somehow it’s embedded in their DNA to love all things Italian. Is that just a “my family” thing? I don’t think so. Anyways, I made some Italian Herb Baked Cheesy Tortellini using the Italian Herb Sauté Express® Sauté Starter and got it done in 30 minutes! It was cheesy, delicious and super filling! My 4-year-old gobbled it up!
Here’s how you make it:

First things first. Get some water boiling for that tortellini! It’ll only take two minutes to cook, but you want to give the water a head start. Pretend I took a picture of that. ANYWAY, now you can start out with some Italian Herb Sauté Express® Sauté Starter…

Four little squares to be exact! Get those melting into your pan over medium heat.

Add in some diced onion and sauté for 3 minutes.

Next add your zucchini and cook for another 3 minutes.

You’re going to want to cook off some cheese tortellini at some point too.

Back to the sauce. Add in a can of petite diced tomatoes and salt and pepper if you’d like. Since all the flavoring is in the Sauté Express Sauté Starter, I just added a tiny bit of salt! Easy peasy! No messing around with bottles of basil or oregano! See what I mean about one-stop shop?

Ok, so once your sauce has cooked down and the veggies are tender, stir in that cooked tortellini with some shaved parmesan cheese.

Then top the whole thing with a healthy layer of mozzarella and place under the broiler.

Two minutes later and dinner is done!

Feel free to top with more cheese and a little parsley if you want to be fancy.So, in about 30 minutes, I had this dinner on the table! Not too shabby if I say so myself! My husband and I loved it and through a little convincing so did my 4-year-old!
